A few groups in Sacramento are doing what they can to help battle gang violence.

On Friday, May 4, Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones unveiled the new Impact Division gang task force, according to an article on KCRA.com. The new task force, which according to the article is funded by a $11.3 million federal grant, includes eight other local police organizations plus state and federal law enforcement. The group has already reportedly made 124 arrests and seized large quantities of illegal drugs.

And in the Sacramento neighborhood of Oak Park, the group Lifelines of Hope is doing what it can to deter gang violence in the community, according to an article on CBS Sacramento’s website.

According to the story, the group walks in areas with high concentrations of violence, hoping that making connections will equal less crime. The group has reportedly already seen a 75 percent reduction in gang violence in the area.
