South Bay Lakers Win Double OT Thriller 118-112 Over Stockton Kings

The Stockton Kings (8-10), of the NBA G League, were defeated by the South Bay Lakers (12-5), 118-112 at Stockton Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

Both teams played a competitive first half with the Kings shooting .356 percent, .308 percent from three-point land and .500 percent from the free throw line. Kings forward Sheldon Mac led the team in scoring at the half with nine points, added five rebounds and two steals. Kings forward Tre ‘Shawn Thurman also had a strong first half with eight points and four rebounds. Lakers forward Chaundee Brown Jr. led the half with 14 points on 5-6 shooting. Stockton entered the break trailing 55-40.

Stockton came out strong in the second half, ending the third quarter only down by one. The rest of game went back-and-forth, with the two teams trading baskets. The game was tied at the end of regulation and the biggest lead either team had in the fourth quarter was three points.

After the end of the first overtime, both teams made six points and a second overtime period was needed. Stockton had a three-point lead with 23.7 seconds left during the first overtime, but Lakers guard Mason Jones was fouled on a 3-point attempt, awarded three free throws and made all of them.  During the second overtime, South Bay stepped up and ultimately won the game.  South Bay finished shooting .529 percent from the field, .370 percent from three and .824 percent from the free throw line. Lakers Jones led his team in scoring with 23 points, added 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals. 

Kings guard DJ Steward and Sheldon Mac each led the team in scoring with 23 points a-piece. Steward added five rebounds and seven assists. Kings guard Matt Coleman III also had a strong game and finished with 17 points and four assists. As a team, the Kings shot .484 percent from the field, .419 percent from three and .625 percent from the free throw line.

The Stockton Kings will travel to take on the Agua Caliente Clippers at Toyota Arena on February 24 at 11:00 AM PT. Fans can tune in to the game on ESPN+.
