Tiger Woods had an operation on his back this week, his second such procedure in less than 18 months, and will be sidelined for the rest of the year.

Dr. Charles Rich performed the operation and called it a “complete success.” Rich performed a similar procedure in March 2014.

Woods said that because of lingering discomfort in his back and hip, he had elected to have surgery in hopes of returning to the PGA Tour in early 2016.
