A number of local agencies are holding events as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day this Saturday, April 27.

These events from from 10am until 2pm are for collecting potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction. The events are free and anonymous, with no questions asked. Collection sites will accept any medicines in capsule and tablet form brought in for disposabl. Intravenous solutions, injectables, needles, and illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine will not be accepted.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department will be collecting at the following locations:

  • Sheriff’s Garfield Station, 5510 Garfield Ave., Sacramento
  • Sheriff’s Florin Station, 7000 65th St., Sacramento
  • Rancho Cordova Police, 2897 Kilgore Rd., Rancho Cordova
  • Antelope High School, 7801 Titan Dr., Antelope

Other collection sites include:

  • Elk Grove Police Department will collect at 8380 Laguna Palms Way, Elk Grove.
  • Sacramento Police Department will colect at the Public Safety Center, 5770 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento

  • San Francisco Police Department will collect at the Central Police Station, 766 Vallejo St., San Francisco
  • Stockton Police Department will collect at the Arnold Rue Community Center, 5758 Lorraine Ave., Stockton
  • San Jose Police Department will collect at the Willow Glen Community Center, 2175 Lincoln Ave., San Jose
