SMUD is accepting applications from high school juniors and seniors for the Youth Energy Summit 2022, a climate and sustainability conference, student community-service project and competition. Students will have an opportunity to earn scholarships for up to $5,000 at the end of the program later this spring.

The three-day climate and sustainability summit focuses on global warming. It will also familiarize students with SMUD’s 2030 Zero Carbon Plan , an ambitious effort to eliminate all carbon emissions from the region’s power supply. Students will learn about sustainability and the concrete steps they can take to bring about positive change in their community.

Following the Youth Energy Summit 2022, which will be held January 27 through 29 on virtual platforms, student teams will spend several months to design, develop and implement a community service project that promotes a cleaner and healthier region. Teams will present their projects before a panel of judges in late April for a chance to win scholarship funding.

Deadline to apply is January 21, 2022. To learn more, please visit smud.org/YES.
